Last Thursday, March 14, 2024, marked a pivotal event in the ongoing discourse on female representation in the entertainment industry. Hosted by Michelle Wasserman, Senior Vice President of LatAm, USH & Brazil at Banijay Rights, the event featured an insightful conversation in collaboration with Banijay Elle and Parrot Analytics, focusing on statistical data analysis and the evolving landscape for women in the industry.
Diving into the heart of the discussion were esteemed speakers Carlota Rossi Spencer, Head of Branded Entertainment Business Development at Banijay Rights, and Tara Quinn, Partner Insights Director (North America) at Parrot Analytics. Their expertise illuminated key trends and provided invaluable insights into the industry’s shifting dynamics.

In addressing the cause of increased representation in Latin America, Tara Quinn pointed to the substantial investments made by streaming giants like Netflix and Amazon, particularly in genres such as telenovelas.
Discussing the demand for female representation behind the camera, Tara Quinn emphasized the audience’s role in driving this demand, citing behavioral data and the quality of content produced by women as key factors.
Carlota Rossi delved into the growth of traditionally male-skewing or less traditionally female-skewing genres, noting that women possess a unique ability to engage diverse audiences. She highlighted the transformative impact of female creators on character development, citing examples like ‘Yellowjackets’ and ‘The Handmaid’s Tale.’
“Shifting towards international Spanish productions, the way we experience content is changing. For example, the audience is becoming more accustomed to reading subtitles,” added Carlota Rossi.
