In 2014, we started a new line of business and started producing our own content: Escandalos. Everything is real except their names, proof of faith and take me or leave me attitude in order to expand its business to the international market outside Latin America, in the USA and Europe. Our next step is to start producing content in English.
“It has been a challenging path, to change careers, but with perseverance and knowing that with passion you can achieve your dream I think is the key to success. Right now, the television industry is going through a very transitional change with all the new platforms in the markets. It’s a new adventure that represents new ideas, risk, and creativity.”
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The road has not been easy.
Changing careers from tax law to the sale of television content was a very hard transition since I needed to learn a completely new line of business, but it was an amazing opportunity to grow as a professional woman and learn new things.
Also, with the change in the television industry, it has been a very difficult job. Trying to learn the new way viewers watch tv content on all the new platforms and with the penetration of international tv content, we are learning every day what to produce and what is working in different regions of the World.
Today we’d like to introduce you to Rosalind Rotundo.
Rosalind, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Originally I was a Tax Lawyer from Venezuela. I worked at KPMG in the Tax Law department for 10 years. In 2007, I moved to Miami, FL, and started a new business, VIP 2000 TV, with my sister Roxana Rotundo. Our company started with the acquisition of movies, series, and telenovelas from Italy, Romania, Croatia, Portugal, and India. We dubbed the new acquisitions into Spanish, and sold them to tv channels in Latin America and the Hispanic USA.
The company has dubbed more than 2000 hours of innovative programs to prove that it can be successful in Latin America.
The company keeps growing, we closed an important deal with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios Inc. (MGM) that gives VIP 2000 TV free television rights to several new MGM releases in 14 countries in Latin America.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
As I said before, VIP 2000 TV, is well known in the Latin American tv market, and Hispanic market in the USA. We are the first company to bring Romanian telenovelas to the Hispanic market, our first one was In The name of Honor, sold in every country in Latin America and here in the United State.
We were the first Independent Distributor to produce a Series in different countries at the same time, showing the great opportunities that we can achieve with different cultures.
We are a boutique family company. We treat all our clients as VIP, no matter the size of the tv station. We work responsibly, honestly, and with no bureaucracy.
And now our company will be the first one to produce a pilot in English in Latin America for the American market.
We are known for creativity, taking risk, and dreaming big.
What were you like growing up?
I grew up in a very difficult childhood. I was separated from my mother by a father who was not the best person. I grew up very shy and overweight, my strength were in my studies, which I did very well in.
At the age of 18, I left my house with $50. I decided to be independent and attended university.
During my university years, I worked and focused on myself to be a strong independent woman. I started exercising, losing weights and focusing on my career.
